Commander.js
By far the most widely used Node.js CLI library, with roughly 500 million weekly npm downloads — the default choice for most tools with a modest number of subcommands.
Yargs
Widely used but a distant second to Commander in the Node.js ecosystem, with roughly 80 million weekly downloads, generally chosen when its richer built-in option validation is specifically needed.
oclif
Much smaller in raw usage (roughly 2 million weekly downloads) but scores highly for momentum and maintenance among plugin-based CLI frameworks, and is the framework behind the Salesforce and Heroku CLIs specifically because of its plugin architecture.
Click
The dominant third-party CLI library in the Python ecosystem, widely adopted and actively maintained.
argparse
Universally available (it’s in the standard library) and still commonly used directly for simpler scripts, though Click and Typer are generally preferred for anything more elaborate.
Typer
A fast-growing choice for new Python CLIs specifically because of its type-hint-driven ergonomics, built and maintained by the same author as FastAPI.
Cobra
The dominant CLI framework in the Go ecosystem, powering some of the most widely used command-line tools in the industry, including Kubernetes’ kubectl, Hugo, Docker’s CLI, and Istio.
Clap
The dominant CLI argument parser in the Rust ecosystem, mature and extremely widely adopted across Rust command-line tools.
Thor
Mature and stable, most notably known as the library Rails itself uses to build its own rails command, though less commonly chosen for new non-Rails Ruby CLIs today.
picocli
A well-regarded, actively maintained option in the Java CLI space, popular specifically for teams that want a single dependency-free library rather than a heavier framework.
Symfony Console
Extremely widely used across the PHP ecosystem, both directly and indirectly — every Laravel application’s artisan command is built on top of it.
