An overview of Bitbucket as a git-hosting platform.

Bitbucket is a git-hosting platform owned by Atlassian, offered as a hosted SaaS product (Bitbucket Cloud) and, historically, in a self-hosted form (Bitbucket Server, since succeeded by Bitbucket Data Center). It is smaller in open-source community footprint than the largest hosts, and is used mainly by teams already invested in the Atlassian ecosystem.

Bitbucket’s core positioning is deep, native integration with other Atlassian products, especially Jira for issue tracking and project management, Trello for lightweight boards, and Confluence for documentation. Rather than trying to be a standalone all-in-one DevOps platform, Bitbucket leans on this Atlassian suite to cover the parts of the workflow it doesn’t handle as extensively itself.
